OnlyVillages Review: Is The Cove Resort & Pub Near Inverness Worth the Drive?

The Cove Resort & Pub is the kind of restaurant many people may not discover unless they’re looking for it. Located near Inverness, about a 25-minute drive from parts of The Villages, it sits inside a rustic resort surrounded by trees, cabins, and RV sites. Although it’s tucked away in a wooded setting, the dining room was busy throughout our visit—a reminder that its out-of-the-way location hasn’t kept people from finding it.

A Rustic Resort Setting Near Inverness

The Cove is more than a restaurant. The property also has rental cabins and RV parking, giving it the feel of a small, older Florida getaway tucked into the woods.

Guests staying at the resort mix with local residents who come for lunch, dinner, drinks, and weekly specials. Inside, the restaurant has wood-paneled walls, neon signs, televisions, and the familiar feel of an established neighborhood pub.

This is not an upscale or polished dining room. It has an informal neighborhood pub atmosphere, and despite its out-of-the-way location, the restaurant was lively during our visit.

The menu is extensive, with burgers, wings, sandwiches, wraps, tacos, seafood, salads, appetizers, and several desserts.

The Cove Resort & Pub Review: What We Ordered

Our table ordered a cross-section of the menu, including sandwiches, a wrap, tacos, a burger, grilled fish, salad, and dessert. Portions were generally generous, and no one at the table expressed disappointment with what they ordered.

Food arrived in a reasonable amount of time despite the restaurant being busy, and our server checked on the table regularly throughout the meal.

Hot Reuben Sandwich

The hot reuben sandwich arrived on toasted marble rye with a generous portion of meat. It was served with thick, crunchy house chips and made for a substantial meal.

The Cove Wrap

The Cove Wrap was another substantial choice. It was filled with grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and cheese, then cut in half and served with the restaurant’s house chips.

Grilled Fish Sandwich

The grilled fish sandwich featured a large piece of seasoned fish with lettuce and tomato on a soft bun. One order was served with baked beans, making it one of the more substantial plates at the table.

Mahi Fish Tacos

The mahi fish tacos were served in soft tortillas with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and additional toppings. They were generously filled and accompanied by another large portion of house chips.

Cheeseburger

The cheeseburger was a straightforward pub-style burger topped with melted cheese and served with pickles and house chips. It fit the casual surroundings and provided a familiar option for anyone not looking for one of the seafood dishes.

House Salad

The house salad was fresh and larger than a basic side salad, with lettuce, tomato, red onion, croutons, and other vegetables.

The Desserts Were Larger Than Expected

Dessert was one of the more notable parts of the meal. Both portions were considerably larger than they appeared in the photographs and could reasonably be shared.

We tried the Death by Chocolate Cake and the bread pudding. The chocolate cake was dense and rich, with whipped cream on top. The warm bread pudding was served in a large mug with whipped cream.

Drinks, Wings, and Weekly Specials

The Cove also has a full bar, beer flights, margaritas, wine, draft beer, and several specialty drinks. Wings appear to be an important part of the menu, with both smoked and traditional preparations listed during our visit.

Based on our visit, The Cove offered generous portions at moderate prices. Many entrées fell into a middle price range, and the portion sizes contributed to a good overall value.

Is The Cove Worth the Drive from The Villages?

The Cove Resort & Pub offers a different atmosphere from many of the restaurants closer to The Villages. Its wooded resort setting, cabins, RV sites, informal pub atmosphere, and broad menu make it feel removed from the more familiar restaurant corridors.

If you’re looking for a casual neighborhood-style pub with a broad menu and a lively atmosphere, The Cove is worth considering if you don’t mind the drive from The Villages. Based on our visit, it’s the kind of place that’s easy to overlook but has clearly built a loyal following.
