Last updated July 20, 2026. Fenney Grill closed after nine years, serving its final customers on Sunday, July 19. The restaurant played an important role in the early growth of the southern portion of The Villages.

When Fenney Grill opened in 2017, the area south of State Road 44 looked very different than it does today. Fenney was one of the community’s newest neighborhoods, and residents had few nearby dining options.

For many people, the restaurant became a convenient place to meet friends for breakfast, stop for lunch after a round of golf, or enjoy dinner without driving farther north.

Over the past nine years, the southern portion of The Villages has changed considerably.

An area that once offered only a handful of dining choices now includes restaurants, food trucks, recreation facilities, and gathering places across several developing districts. Sawgrass Grove has grown into an established destination, while Eastport continues to take shape.

Remembering its place in the community

Fenney Grill leaves behind a simple legacy. It filled an important need when it opened, giving residents in a growing part of the community a nearby place to eat and gather before many of today’s dining options existed.

People who watched the southern villages develop over the past decade may remember the restaurant as much for its timing as its menu. It welcomed residents when this part of the community was still finding its footing.
